California might just be in for an earthquake, not a natural one but an economic one. California just defaulted on an emergency federal loan that helped fund state unemployment, meaning that employers were stuck with the bill. And the unemployment rate for our populous state is higher than the rest of the country, meaning more people are on unemployment, which leads to more money that employers have to pay back.
