Despite Los Angeles’ political leaders, teachers, and unions pushing heavily for Measure EE, the large parcel tax increase was resoundingly defeated by voters. Measure EE has been watched by a number of groups as an early indicator of whether a statewide tax increase for education may have a chance of passing in 2020, writes Dan Walters. With Measure EE’s defeat, pro-tax proponents may end up being more cautious about new school tax proposals.
