OPINION: Hurting business owners is no way to help the poor

A new initiative proposal that increases property taxes to fund anti-poverty programs would actually harm the poor, writes Susan Shelley in the Los Angeles Daily News.  The proposal raises taxes by $6 billion a year by eliminating Proposition 13 protections for properties valued at over $3 million, but this increased tax burden would drive more businesses to leave and reduce already-limited job opportunities.
