OPINION: Caltrans Signs Up for Waste

As November approaches, voters will have the opportunity to repeal the gas tax. In an attempt to persuade voters not to vote for Proposition 6, Caltrans has put up signs along roads and freeways that read “Your Tax Dollars at Work”, as a way of increasing “transparency and accountability.” Yet, none of these $700 signs discloses how much revenue from the gas tax is going towards each particular project, nor how much in total that Caltrans spent on the signs, writes K. Lloyd Billingsley of The Beacon. With a history of fiscal irresponsibility, it wouldn’t be surprising if motorists chalked these road signs up as just another example of Caltrans wasting taxpayer dollars, this time for the sake of election propaganda.
