NEWS: Why do Californians pay more state and local taxes than Texans?

While Californians endure one of the nation’s most extreme tax burdens, our government fails to use these funds competently, according to an analysis by the Mercury News. Important priorities like roads, education achievement and public safety protection lag comparable states such as Texas and Florida, despite greater spending. Taxpayer advocates including the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association contend the real source of this problem is the extent of control government employee unions exert over lawmakers.
