Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti trumpeted plans to address homelessness, fix roads, and remove graffiti in his recent State of the City speech, but neglected to mention the city’s spiraling pension obligations, reports the Los Angeles Times. Unsustainable pension obligations have created serious challenges for communities around California. However, recent court rulings indicate policymakers may be able to revise benefits to more realistic levels.
