In a late night vote, the Legislature approved new gas and car taxes that will cost California motorists over $5 billion a year, reports KCRA. Sacramento politicians justified the tax increase with the claim that they lack money to adequately maintain roads. Taxes on gasoline will rise 12 cents a gallon and taxes on diesel will skyrocket 20 cents. Motorists also will be socked with new car taxes ranging from $25 to $175 annually.
