NEWS: California’s Unfunded Liability for Retiree Health Care Reaches $74B

Unfunded liabilities for state retiree health programs have reached $74 billion, according to a recent announcement by State Controller Betty Yee, reports CaliforniaHealthline.  Governor Jerry Brown is currently negotiating with government employee unions to increase employee contributions for health care.  However, surveys indicate many union members oppose increased contribution requirements.
