NEWS: California’s new budget program will take millions more to finish

In 2005, state officials approved an immense update to the state’s accounting system, called Financial Information System for California or Fi$Cal. Initially, smaller state programs have implemented Fi$Cal, but are struggling to meet reporting deadlines that are necessary to begin implementation in large state programs. At it’s current projection, Fi$Cal will cost California taxpayers over $900 million, including a new timeline for completion.
