Japanese company Kinkisharyo International is in the process of building 175 light-rail cars for the Los Angeles area Metropolitan Transportation Authority, but the company’s plans to upgrade its Palmdale facility for heavy manufacturing have been interrupted by disagreements with the electrical workers’ union, reports the Los Angeles Times. The union filed lawsuits relating to environmental concerns in what company officials believe is an attempt to pressure the company to make its facility a union shop. However, instead of agreeing to unionize its workforce, the company now is likely to locate new manufacturing in another state.
