Teachers serving in union positions can earn six figure salaries by collecting pay from both their teaching and union positions while also building seniority and accruing pension benefits, a practice which has drawn criticism and legal challenges, reports CalWatchdog. Critics, including other teachers, say union officials should not be allowed to be outside the classroom when they should be teaching while others contend taxpayer funds may be subsidizing union activities.
