Who Wants Homeowners to Pay Higher Taxes?

Our last issue listed the billionaires who supported Propositions 39 and 26 — measures designed to make it much easier to increase property taxes. Below is a list of those who contributed $100,000 or more to the Prop. 39 campaign, along with Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan who contributed $99,990.50.

Total contributions to the Prop. 39 campaign came in at $32 million. The combined total for Props. 26 and 39 is $56 million!

A few notable contributions and some basic statistics:

Edison International contributed $15,000 to the Prop. 39 campaign and $25,000 to the Prop. 26 campaign for a combined total of $40,000.

PG&E Corporation contributed $5,000 to the Prop. 39 campaign.

AARP contributed $6,160 to the Prop. 39 campaign.

86% of the total amount of Prop. 39 contributions received came from contributors who donated $100,000 or more to the campaign.

98% of the total amount of Prop. 39 contributions received came from contributors who donated $10,000 or more to the campaign.

Only 0.02% of the total amount of Prop. 39 contributions received came from contributors who donated less than $100 to the campaign.
